Kolmapäeval, 29. aprillil kell 18.00 avatakse Paul Kormašovi isiknäitus „Maailmade vahel" Vaal galeriis. Näitus jääb avatuks kuni 30. maini, T–R 12–18, L 12–16.

Näitus “Maailmade vahel” on isiklik lugu kodutundest ja selle tähenduse teisenemisest muutuva maailma(tunnetuse) mõjul.

Üksteist aastat pärast sünnimaalt lahkumist on kodu määratlus ja omaenda identiteet tundmatuseni muutunud. Vaatamata kestvale armastusele on toimunud paratamatu lahkukasvamine sünnimaast ja selle igapäevaelust. Vana ja tuttavlik on suuresti kadunud, ent tekkinud seesmises tühimikus on vahepeal tärganud uued võrsed – seletamatu kiindumus oma nüüdse kodulinna räpastesse ja elurikastesse tänavatesse; intiimsed hetked teepeal kohatud lähedastega; ootamatult leitud soojus teisel pool ookeani, abikaasa sünnikodus. Kõigest sellest on saanud osa “kodust”, samas kui maailmatunnetus kasvab, teiseneb ja avardub.

Siinne näitus on ülalkirjeldatud kohtade ja tunnete kohtumispaigaks, kus jutustust kannavad maalid kui sõnatud mõtted. Vaated kunstniku jaoks olulistele paikadele, vaiksed stseenid argielust ning abstraktsed mõtisklused, mis viivad maailmasse suletud silmade taga. Võib-olla ei olegi kodu konkreetne koht, üks kindel ankur, mis meid turvaliselt enda sees paigal hoiab? Ehk on see hoopis muutlik tugisammaste kogum, sulam kohtadest, inimestest, tunnetest ja mälestustest. Meie juured kohtuvad uuega ning aja jooksul areneb välja teistlaadi tunnetus, mis suunab ja abistab meid elus erinevate maailmade vahel.

Paul Kormašov (s 1989) on eesti maalikunstnik. Läbi aastate on tema loomingus peamine suund olnud värvitundlik abstraktsioon, kuid järjest enam esineb ka figuraalset laadi – portreesid, (linna)maastikke ning muid elemente ümbritsevast keskkonnast. Ta on lõpetanud Kõrgema Kunstikooli Pallase (Tartu, 2013) ning viimased üksteist aastat elanud ja töötanud Berliinis. Käesolev näitus on tema neljateistkümnes isikunäitus, lisaks osaleb ta regulaarselt grupinäitustel ja oksjonitel. Kormašovi töid leidub arvukates erakogudes eelkõige Eestis ja Saksamaal, aga ka mujal Euroopas ning Põhja-Ameerikas.

On Wednesday 29th of April at 6 pm Paul Kormašov's solo exhibition "Between Worlds" will open at Vaal Gallery. The exhibition will remain open until 30th of May, Tue–Fri 12–6 pm and Sat 12–4 pm.

The exhibition “Between Worlds” is a personal story about the sense of home, and how the meaning of home can change in different stages of life, in different places and under the influence of a changing world (perception).

This exhibition is a meeting spot for the places and feelings where the story is carried by paintings as wordless thoughts. Views on places important to the artist, quiet scenes from everyday life, and abstract reflections that lead into the world behind closed eyes. Perhaps home is not a specific place or a single anchor safely holding us within ourselves? Maybe it is instead a shifting set of supports – a blend of places, people, feelings and memories.

Eleven years after having left the country of birth, personal identity and the definition of home have changed beyond recognition. Despite a lasting love, an inevitable growing apart from the homeland and its everyday life has taken place. The old and familiar have largely disappeared, but in the resulting internal void new shoots have sprouted over time – an inexplicable attachment to the littered and lively streets of the current hometown; intimate moments with the close ones met along the way; an unexpectedly found warmth across the ocean, in the spouse’s childhood home. All this has become part of “home” too, as the sense of the world broadens, transitions and multiplies.

This exhibition is a meeting spot for the places and feelings described above, where the story is carried by paintings as wordless thoughts. Views on places important to the artist, quiet scenes from everyday life, and abstract reflections that lead into the world behind closed eyes. Perhaps home is not a specific place or a single anchor safely holding us within ourselves? Maybe it is instead a shifting set of supports – a blend of places, people, feelings and memories. Our roots meet the new, and over time a different kind of sensibility develops, one that guides and helps us through life lived between worlds.

Paul Kormašov (b 1989) is an Estonian painter. Throughout the years the main style of his work has been colourful abstractionism, which in recent years has become increasingly figurative – adding elements such as portraits, (urban) landscapes and other depictions of nature and surrounding environments. He graduated from Pallas University of Applied Sciences (Tartu, Estonia) in 2013 and relocated to Berlin in 2015, where he still resides. The current show is his 14th solo exhibition to date; he also regularly participates in group shows and auctions. Kormašov’s works are represented in numerous private collections, primarily in Estonia and Germany, but also elsewhere in Europe and North America.
